CREATING INCENTIVES TO CHANGE IRRESPONSIBLE POLICIES

Click here to read about a civil rights lawsuit Ms. Dugan settled against Eugene school district for allowing a student to be beaten on a school bus on school grounds. The settlement included changes in school district policy, including video cameras on all school buses, allowing parents of victims to watch the videos, and standardized bullying complaint forms.

While Ms. Dugan has litigated and settled many legal and medical malpractice cases, there aren't any internet links about those cases at this time. Some examples are:

- Ms. Dugan handled a dental malpractice claim that went to trial in Eugene, Oregon, a few years ago, and obtained a jury verdict of $250,000. The oral surgeon had removed a patch of skin from our client's mouth to check for cancer (which was negative), but took such a large biopsy that he damaged the patient's salivary glands. He failed to properly diagnose the problem and the patient ended up needing surgery to slice open the side of his neck to remove most of his salivary glands. He developed severe scar tissue on his neck.

- Ms. Dugan has settled over a dozen legal malpractice claims, involving lawyers who mishandled matters ranging from employment discrimination to criminal defense to property disputes to auto accidents. She has taken several such malpractice claims to arbitration and trial.

- In the same period, Ms. Dugan has obtained numerous medical and dental malpractice settlements for her clients, and has taken others to arbitration and trial.

At this time, Ms. Dugan is not taking any new medical malpractice cases but is reviewing new lawyer malpractice cases.
